A Thought

sins-in-the-depths

This upcoming Sunday we remember the baptism of Jesus. We remember when Jesus stood in the place of sinners, even receiving the baptism that they need so that in the waters of baptism we can be made clean from all sins.

In Psalm 103:12 we hear that, “as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” And in Micah 7:19 we hear, “He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” What a beautiful promise made to the people of Israel and then seen in the waters of baptism when our sins are washed away on account of Christ. Your sins are gone and you have been made free! Praise be to God.

Calendar
1/5
College-Age Fellowship – From 7-9(ish) at the parsonage. Whether you’re in college or graduated from high school and still in the area, come for a time of snacks, fellowship, and prayer before everyone goes their separate ways. Parents, please pass this along to your college-age family members. If you plan on attending, please let me know.

1/15
Youth Group – 12-2 at the Ed Building. We’ll have a lesson time, and then we can have time to talk about current events from a Christian perspective. Bring articles and questions you would like to have opened up for discussion with the group (you can submit stuff to me so that the source of the question is unknown to everyone else).

1/22
Financial Peace University starts (3-5) – This is a 9-week program about Godly money management. I have taken it once and taught it once and it is a fun and engaging time each time I’ve seen the videos. I highly highly highly encourage any of the youth and families who can, to take this class. This digs not only into getting out of debt and using money wisely, but it also digs into retirement stuff, choosing the right insurance for your budget and so on. Even if youth can come for the weeks that are applicable to them, it’s a great opportunity. If you’re interested, please let me know.

Feel free to call or visit with questions, or to just talk in general.
