A Thought

This Sunday many will participate in one of America’s greatest religious traditions.

Make no mistake, there are traditions that go on in each household when the Super Bowl arrives. Whether it’s a matter of the food that’s eaten or the rituals that take place to ensure that a team wins, there are rituals and traditions in nearly every big sporting event. One could even say there’s a liturgy.

In the Christian church, we have them too. We join together on the first day of the week to praise the creator of the universe who has given us everlasting life through his son. We cry out for mercy, praise him for his goodness, and raise our voices in song. Sure it looks different, but it’s a tradition and liturgy with more significance than the Super Bowl. While we begin with the invocation, move on to confession and absolution, the introit, the readings, etc…, the Super Bowl starts with the pre-game stuff, the intro of the players, the coin toss, the kickoff, the half-time show, etc…

Life is a series of liturgies, an order, and a structure to how we live. We always want to make sure we prioritize our time with Christ as we do the other liturgies in our life.

Youth Group from 12-2 – This is the same day as a Meet and Greet of new members at the church so we’re going to get some food together over in the Multi-purpose room to meet some new members of the Immanuel family and then split off to the Ed Building for games, conversation, and fellowship.

2/25
Youth vs Adult Bowling – 3-5pm at West Park Bowl in Columbia. It’s $2 per game and $2 for shoes. The first round will be crazy bowl and then normal games after that. I’m excited to help the youth show the adults a thing or two about bowling. Have questions? Let me know. Be sure to sign up in the Narthex.

We’ll have a service event at the Seminary and bowling coming up soon. I’ll have more info here next week.

Feel free to call or visit with questions, or to just talk in general.
