A Thought

Did you know you’re a terrible Christian? It’s true. Then again, so am I.

We don’t read our Bible enough, we don’t go to church enough, we don’t pray enough. But Jesus has done everything perfectly in our place. This message of God’s perfect love and forgiveness and the news of Jesus may sound redundant week after week, but when we realize how sinful we are, how much we disregard God and break his commandments, then hearing that we have forgiveness in Jesus’ name is the best news we can hear at any time.

We have been claimed by Christ in the waters of baptism. We have been made God’s children, and part of his kingdom. In this beautiful state of being we strive to live holy lives (lives set apart to bring God glory), but we fail…a lot. Praise be to God that our attempts at being good enough aren’t what give us peace. Instead, we have peace through our faith in Jesus who was good enough in our place

Also, here’s a reflection from Higher Things based on today’s lectionary reading and the commemoration of The Holy Innocents (that time when Herod had all of the baby boys killed in attempts to get rid of Jesus). If you click on the link for today’s reflection and scroll down to the bottom of the page, you’ll find a “play” button if you’d rather listen to it than read it. (You can also subscribe to the daily reflections on iTunes).

Calendar
12/30
Nerf War and Gym Fellowship – From 6-8 pm we’re going to have a great time of food and activities in the gymnasium at church. If you have questions, please let me know.

1/5
College-Age Fellowship – From 7-9(ish) at the parsonage. Whether you’re in college or graduated from high school and still in the area, come for a time of snacks, fellowship, and prayer before everyone goes their separate ways. Parents, please pass this along to your college-age family members. If you plan on attending, please let me know.

1/15
Youth Group – 12-2 at the Ed Building. We’ll have a lesson time, and then we can have time to talk about current events from a Christian perspective. Bring articles and questions you would like to have opened up for discussion with the group (you can submit stuff to me so that the source of the question is unknown to everyone else).

1/22
Financial Peace University starts (3-5) – This is a 9-week program about Godly money management. I have taken it once and taught it once and it is a fun and engaging time each time I’ve seen the videos. I highly highly highly encourage any of the youth and families who can, to take this class. This digs not only into getting out of debt and using money wisely, but it also digs into retirement stuff, choosing the right insurance for your budget and so on. Even if youth can come for the weeks that are applicable to them, it’s a great opportunity. If you’re interested, please let me know.

Feel free to call or visit with questions, or to just talk in general.
