Someone recently asked about books like The Shepard of Hermas and The Epistle of Barnabas and why they were left out of the New Testament.
The conversation about canonicity…that is to say “the canon of what we have in the Bible and why” is a few books worth of discussion. This discussion comes up quite a bit with regards to the Apocrypha (books considered part of the Canon in the Roman Catholic church), but there are also some books that we see discussed in history but which are not considered part of the canon of Scripture. Why is that?
Well, here are some good resources for some quick and basic answers on the matter.
I could try to reiterate everything they said, but it’s probably just as helpful to point you in the direction of someone who has already laid it out for us.
If you have any deeper questions, please let me know.
Have a great day and God bless!
